Responsive web design for tablets and smartphones

Well it’s almost Christmas, most of the presents are under the tree and once again the gifts will include more and more mobile devices for people to view your website on!

With the vast ranges of Laptops and Smartphones on the market, more people are using these convenient platforms to view your website which is great for you but how convenient and user friendly is your site for these visitors?

As long as your site is not built with Flash then in most cases it will be view-able on mobile devices. However unless you have already utilised ‘Responsive Web Design’ then your visitor will be pinching and pulling at their screens to move around and zoom in to read your content.

So what is responsive Design?

Responsive Web Design is creating additional style sheets for your website that will automatically be identified by the mobile device to display a resized version of your website for that device. The content is the same in most cased but the layout is slightly different for tablets and will become a longer scrolling page often with drop-down navigation for Smart Phones but you don’t need to pinch and pull to view. Your content is displayed at a readable size and it is easier to navigate shop and find information.

The key is that Responsive Design makes the user experience of your website more enjoyable, much easier and faster to find what the visitor is looking for, so it should be at the top of your list for your website in 2014.

To give you an idea of the amount of traffic coming to your website viewed on a mobile device (Tablet or Smart Phone) Tristar Web Solutions analysed the stats for 5 of its clients and all were showing between 35 and 45% of all their traffic was now from a mobile device!

Keep ahead of the competition; be Responsive not Reactive in 2014
